Statistics

The following information has been taken from a survey that some of the students and teachers at Ridgemont High School have completed. The graphs show the different opinions that people have about Indigenous land recognition. We wanted to show visually how people feel about this topic and with this information, we can share it and improve our school and community.

Yes

No

Maybe

Yes for awhile to be recognized not sure how much longer

To an extent.

Yes. I think it should be done short and sincere instead of long and rehearsed

Yes, but much more than words needs to be happening to undo wrongs. In our community of learners, much more than land recognition needs to be included in our daily school life to educate us all, and to armor Indigenous kids against inherited injustices. We must empower all students to achieve success while respecting and valuing their culture.

Yes when done genuinely. when acknowledging the land is stolen and maybe not daily so that it doesn't just become routine & folks tune it out.

Dedicate a section to it in the morning announcements

Having a sign at the entrance of the school

Provide information in the weekly school emails sent to students

I think the school is already doing a great job, I now have the land recognition ingrained in my mind

Curriculum

Involve students

Signs in every class, on class doors, signs in Indigenous languages. Include the topic in class lessons.

Incorporate it into the curriculum more

On special occasions (assemblies, etc.), maybe start of each month.

Take steps to give something back to the community. Talk is not good enough
